Interesting facts about guinea pigs

°  Despite their name they are not pigs and do not come from Guinea. They originated in the Andes.

°  Another name for a Guinea pig is a 'Cavy'.

°  A male guinea pig is called a boar and female is called a sow.

°  In the wild they live in 'herds' with a dominant boar (male) who breeds with the females.

°  Guinea pigs are unable to make their own vitamin C so it needs to be supplemented into their diet.

°  Their teeth are constantly growing so it's important for them to chew to wear them down.

°  They live between 7 and 9 years.

°  The oldest guinea pig was 15 years old and is in the Guiness book of records.

°  Guinea pigs have 4 toes on the forefoot and 3 on the hind foot.

°  Each guinea pig has five different types of hair that makes up their coat.
