Pet insurance helps out Shadow's owner

Shadow is a 6 month old Golden Retriever who was signed up for four weeks free pet insurance at her initial consultation when she was 8 weeks old. Luckily her owners continued her insurance after the four weeks expired because at four months of age, Shadow was presented at our clinic with vomiting and lethargy. She was admitted to hospital for blood tests and intravenous fluid therapy.

Freddy is a 10 year old Australian Terrier who was diagnosed with diabetes and Cushing's disease just over a year ago. Freddy needs to have insulin injections twice daily, medication and be fed a special diet to manage these diseases. What does an absorbency sachet have to do with Ricky Ponting?

You are probably wondering "Huh?! What's a cricketer doing with an absorbency sachet?!" Well, nothing! Our patient Ricky Ponting is not a cricketer but he is a 19 week old Kelpie cross Koolie. His owners called the clinic because Ricky had eaten an absorbency sachet from a raw meat tray. Our veterinarian recommended Ricky to come down to the clinic so we could examine him and induce vomiting.

Gogo wants to be a mum

Gogo is a 5 and a half year old Shiba Inu. Her owner brought Gogo into the clinic because she was starting to produce a small amount of milk. Her mammary glands were initially hot and painful, her teats were enlarged and she was more aggressive than normal towards their other dog (Gogo's mother). All these signs were consistent with pregnancy, however, Gogo had not been mated. Gogo was showing signs of pseudopregnancy (false pregnancy) which results from a hormonal imbalance. She had a litter by caesarean several years ago and her owner is hoping to mate her again in the future.

Tilly and her grass seeds story

Tilly, a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel, came to the clinic because she had been licking her foot a lot and her owner had noticed a lump. Tilly and her family had just returned from a holiday at the family farm where there were an abundance of long grass. Our veterinarian examined Tilly's foot and saw an entry point so flushed the wound and removed a grass seed with forceps.

Clarence gets a 'facelift' - a first at Fitzroy Vet

Five year old Clarence the Basset Hound visited our clinic because he had a lot of excess skin on his face which was rolling over his eyes and diminishing his vision. The excess skin was also causing his eye lashes to rub on his eye which was very painful and was at risk of causing trauma to the cornea. Clarence was in need of a 'facelift' (in medical term it is known as rhytidectomy) in an attempt to restore his vision and stop his eye lashes from rubbing on his eyes.

No more ball games for Charlotte

Four year old Charlotte was presented to us because she had been off her food, lethargic and vomiting. Our veterinarian performed a physical examination and felt a lump in her abdomen. It was decided that we would need to take some radiographs of Charlotte's abdomen to investigate further.

Sparky gets surgery on cancerous lump

Sparky is a 10 year old Blue Heeler X who came into the clinic to have five lumps removed. Our veterinary team had a closer examination of the removed lumps. Four of the five lumps looked like lipomas which are fatty lumps. However the fifth lump which was removed from her chest was sent to the laboratory for testing (histopathology).

Evie's bad breath
